Reggie Cornelius went to the Lord on July 10, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He had been fighting prostate cancer for the past 11 years.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years Barbara, his son Sean and his partner Marcia Wright, and his son Brett and his partner Lynne Furlong, and his two grandchildren Riley Damon and Zaven Cruz Cornelius.
Reggie was born in Oakland, California in 1941. He attended San Leandro High School where he excelled as a student as well as participating in both basketball and football. He won his varsity letter in both sports. After graduation he joined the Army and spent most of his tour in Italy. Upon his return to the U.S. he attended Chabot College as a business major while working with the Alameda County Probation Department as a counselor. He attended Cal State East Bay in Hayward, graduating in 1966 with a B.A. in Business. He started his 30 year career with Ford Motor Company in 1969.
Reggie met Barbara, who he called "the love of his life" in 1966 and they were married in 1969. They moved to Oregon where their first son Sean was born in 1971. They then returned to the East Bay moving to Pleasanton, in 1972. Their second son Brett was born in 1973. During the years in Pleasanton he busied himself by coaching soccer and baseball, and was the J.V. coach for Foothill High School.
After retiring from Ford Motor Company Reg and Barb moved to Redding, California settling into the Tierra Oaks Community where he enjoyed playing golf, organizing crab feeds for the church, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as mentoring a young man Justin Hodson, giving Justin a real value of the world.
Reggie will be remembered as a wonderful husband and father as well as a great friend to so, so many, along with his endless contribution to humanity. He will be long remembered.
Services will be held Friday morning July 16, 2010 at 11 o'clock at
Our Lady of Mercy Church, 2600 Shasta View Drive, in Redding, California.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or
Mercy Medical Hospice Center in Redding.
