Roy Alfred Nelson Jr. was born October 2, 1919 in Lodi CA to Roy and Sue (Leathco) Nelson Sr. He was the oldest of 5 children. On December 30, 2012 he passed away peacefuly at home at the age of 93.
He left home at an early age to pursue what would be, many different careers in his long life. Some of the jobs he worked at were, a dairy farmer, logger, fisherman, and what would be his last career, a backhoe operator. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying many hunting and fishing trips. He enjoyed diving for abalone and did it well into his 70's.He and his family lived in Arcata CA for many years before moving to Cottonwood CA in the mid 80's.
After he retired, his favorite passtime was fishing and working in his vegetable garden. He always loved telling hunting and fishing stories to his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Flourilla, one brother Donald, and his only sister Yvonne.
He is survived by his 5 children: Rosalee (Nick) Nicholson of Emmett, Idaho, Diana (Curt) Fuller of Cottonwood, CA, Homer (Pat) Nelson of Orangevale, CA, Rhonda (Jerry) Pusch of Anderson, CA, and Cheryl (Bill) Stonebarger of Inola, Oklahoma; brothers, Ken of Sacremento, CA and Harold of Cashion, AZ. He had 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Allen & Dahl Funeral Chapel in Anderson CA. Viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. to service time.
A burial service will be held on January 10, 2013 at Ocean View Cemetery in Eureka, CA at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to St. Elizabeth Hospice in Red Bluff or the charity of your choice .
